
As a Brain, Behavior, and WellBeing (B3) participant you may be asked if you want to participate in additional activities, such as completing a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scan, where we take a digital picture of your brain. fMRI measures and maps brain activity in a noninvasive and safe way using a magnetic field.
Here’s what you need to know prior to your appointment.
The fMRI appointment will be conducted at the University of Wisconsin–Madison Waisman Center. Your appointment will take approximately 2.5 hours. All visitors should park in stalls outlined in blue and hang a visitor’s permit from their rear view mirror. A parking permit will either be mailed to you in advance of your visit or you can get one at the lobby desk.

Parents are welcome to wait in a room adjacent to the scanner while the appointment is taking place. Since the appointments will take a few hours, we also wanted to share a few of the local coffee shops in case parents wanted to wait in a nearby location.
